I started my career in education in 1992 in Phoenix, Arizona, and have had numerous roles over the
years: teacher, mentor, department chair, board member, technology coordinator, freshman
transition coordinator, and building leader. I have worked at the middle and high school levels in
public schools (traditional and charter), and received two master degrees in Secondary Education
and Career and Technical Education from Northern Arizona University.
After I moved to Colorado in the summer of 2007, I continued to work in Career and Technical
Education, emphasizing Arts and STEM pathways for all students. I am especially concerned for
underrepresented groups in these career fields and will seek to continue the work of Big Picture Learning so that all students receive quality internship experiences.
I live with my wife, Mary, and have two daughters, Sierra (age 21) and Alaina (age 19). Sierra is
employed with Alaska Airlines and Alaina is majoring in engineering. My free time is spent
pursuing travel around the country and the world, enjoying the great outdoors, attending visual and
performing arts events, and watching or participating in sporting activities.
