Though I am not a Colorado native, I moved to the state 15 years ago and moved to Durango 13 years ago to attend Fort Lewis College where I received my degree and my Teacher Education License. I met my wife Elizabeth our first year at Fort Lewis and we were both fortunate enough to find our careers in education allowing us to call Durango home.
Before working as an advisor I held an internship position at Denier Youth Services Center followed by positions at The Phoenix Program and Miller Middle School. I also had the opportunity to coach wrestling for 5 years at Miller Middle School. My journey as a Big Picture educator began 8 years ago. This experience has not only changed me as a person but has changed the way I look at education. This program has the power to develop a student’s full potential while allowing them to explore the pathways to pursuing their passions and interests. This is my mission for each of my students.
It’s important to share your passions with students which is why in addition to being the Social Studies teacher at Big Picture, I also run a Kickboxing Club, Theater Club, and an adolescent brain group called the “Neuronauts”. So stop by some time, bring a good joke, and be ready to see something different going on at BP!
