Snow Day Reminders

The school district will make the decision about any snow delays or closures by 5:30 am. This decision is made in coordination with emergency management, the City of Durango, CDOT and La Plata County. Road conditions, bus route access, ongoing weather and school access are all aspects considered in the decision.

We understand that 9-R serves a large geographic area and snow impacts may vary greatly across the region. We encourage families to stay home if it is unsafe to travel from their area if more severely impacted by snow or poor road conditions, even if schools are open. Student absences for this reason will be excused.

If 9-R schools close due to inclement weather, there will NOT be remote learning. The school district no longer offers remote learning and thus will not be able to continue this practice for snow days.

Families are also encouraged to ensure that their contact information is current in their InfiniteCampus account. Families can review and update their contact information by logging into their IC Parent account, or by contacting their school’s office.

9-R notifies families of any snow closures or delays by voice, email and text, and includes all emergency contacts for students in those notifications as well. Community members can also check the district website at durangoschools.org, or any of the social media pages, for updates on snow or weather impacts, or call the district’s Information Line at 970-375-3811.
