On March 3, 2021, 9-R was notified by San Juan Basin Public Health (SJBPH) that individuals across Durango High School, Miller Middle School, and Needham Elementary, as well as individuals in Track at DHS and individuals in Basketball at Miller Middle School and Escalante Middle School, were in close contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19, causing nine (9) cohorts to quarantine. The school and the district are working proactively with the SJBPH to make the appropriate notifications and next steps for those who may have been in close contact with this individual.
This week our community continues to remain in yellow on the COVID-19 dial for our region. These fluctuations are the reason the district will not move on its Return to In-Person Learning Matrix until 14 days of steady community transmission rates, as well as personnel availability remains stable.
For this week of February 22, 2021, seven (7) cohorts, six (6) at Durango High School and one (1) at Park Elementary, were put into quarantine.

Many families are wondering what our next steps will be for increasing in-person learning for students as we continue to see a reduction in local transmission rates and move through the state dial on COVID risk. Next Monday is a scheduled holiday in recognition of President’s Day, and next week we will continue to have Wednesday as a remote learning day. So in-person students will attend Tuesday, Thursday and Friday the week of the 15th.
