District Launches My Stop App For Bus Riders

We are excited to introduce a new feature now available to families who have students who ride our buses. As an extension of our scanning system, which utilizes Student IDs to scan students on and off buses, parents can now download an app to their mobile device to access their child’s bus route information in live time and in a secure environment.

DHS Girls Go CyberStart Team Wins $1000

“It’s like pretending to be a secret agent,” said DHS senior Nicole Wiley when asked how she would describe the Girls Go CyberStart challenge to a stranger.

This was Nicole’s first time participating in the Girls Go CyberStart competition. She was joined by teammates Katie Williams, Kaitlyn Ashburn, and Jessica Fiala for the challenge, which explores cyber security through a fun game-like structure that incorporates cryptography, web attacks, forensics, programming, and linux.

Early Access for Kindergarten

Durango School District 9-R has the opportunity to accelerate highly advanced gifted children under age 5 for kindergarten and/or under age 6 for first grade. This Early Access is for those eligible students if their birthdays fall after October 1st. It is intended to support students who are evaluated to be exceptional in aptitude/cognitive reasoning, academics, school readiness and motivation. Early Access is not an acceleration pattern recommended for the majority of age 4 or age 5 gifted children who will benefit from preschool or kindergarten programming that responds to the strength area. The purpose is to identify and serve the few highly advanced gifted children who require comprehensive academic acceleration. The decision is based on a thorough set of research based procedures to determine if a child is eligible.

9-R Seeks Applicants for Long-Range Planning Committee

The Durango School District 9-R Board of Education is creating a community-based committee to solicit knowledge, expertise and feedback from the community regarding the long-range planning for facility use in the district. This ad-hoc committee will be responsible for reviewing existing district facilities and setting a vision for growth and development. As the community and the district continue to grow, it is important for the district to hear from community stakeholders so that the direction supports both district and community needs.
